Sometimes I feel myself a bit sad about my home country. I think every one who has left their home country to build up a life abroad has those ideas.

I sometimes miss the green flat fields, I sometimes miss the endless traffic jams in the morning, I miss the beaches, the forests and just spending time alongside a river or a canal.

And yes, almost everyone knows something about the Netherlands. Off course Amsterdam comes in mind to almost everyone. If it is not Amsterdam then some people refer to Rotterdam or to its famous painters or Johan Cruyff as one of the most famous football players in the world. As a Dutch I have another view of the Netherlands although I feel that some ideas about Holland are wrong.

Amsterdam isn’t the city of sex, drugs and …. The whole of Holland is at least subject to drugs traffic. I used to live in the South near the Belgian border and my city had to cope with a lot of drug traffic out of France and Belgium. There are cities in the East coping with the same problem from traffic out of Germany.

And Holland is not all about drugs. It is a lovely country although it is mainly flat and with hills in the East or very south east of the country.
It is a diversity of people that live together in an adaptable peace. Off course sometimes different opinions can lead to a burst up, but in the majority the diversity of people are living in peace or harmony together.

The Netherlands, also known as the land of flowers is getting a lot of tourists for Amsterdam being known as the Venice of Northern Europe. Some people know The Netherlands as the land of cheese or wooden choose but in regular day to day life you almost don’t see these things because mainly it is shown in the tourist season.

Sometimes with sadness I am thinking of my country. I do miss certain things but then again I have chosen to go and live abroad
