The Tour de France is some days on its way and yes we are in the mountains. Certainly I would have followed this action on TV but unfortunately today turned into the old style again.
The Tour was clean so far and if cyclists really think they can go about without being caught then they are stupid and bring a bad name to all of the cyclist that pledge for a clean ride.
As I have said in my former post I have respect for all sportsmen and sportswomen off course who do their utmost to succeed in the top without using anything. OK in normal life, drugs in sports are used. No question about that but I am in favour to ban that out. Many countries forbid the use of drugs so why would we accept that in sports. Sportsmen that use should not be allowed to return to their sports and given a jail sentence just like all of the people that have been caught with drugs.
We aren’t talking about my opinion here but what drugs in the Tour will cause for next events. Every year, for the past 5 years at least, the Tour de France had to deal with all these bad influences and has given the Tour a bad name. The Tour is and should be for the cyclist that want to achieve something.
So my impression of this Tour has been damaged again. I am considering, if the sanction will be the complete restriction from the team where the cysclist was part of, to watch the real mountain courses that I truly like.
Yesterday the 95th Tour de France has started again.
As me being Dutch and the major means of transport after a car in the Netherlands is a bicycle I am quite fond about writing about this cycling event. In its years of existence many Dutch cyclists have participated in this event and for some years they dominated this event. We Dutch even provided for several times the overall winners of the Tour but we will unlikely be in the top this time.
Because of the major changes of promotion many teams can’t bring up a team with only Dutch cyclists in our Dutch teams, so for years every team is a mix of several nationalities.
I am very curious to see if this year the tour is in the news again for its drugs reputation and if there are many other things going wrong. The last years the Tour was in the news only for this kind of news. Yes I know in every kind of sports drugs are used for increased performance but I am the type of person that likes the real spirit of fighting to become number one without any use of drugs to be able to perform. I like people showing attitude, showing what they are worth or even why they fail. I have the deepest respect for these sportmen that will climb up a mountain and being cheered by a crowd. I dislike to find out that a favourite has used again to be in the top. I rather see someone completely burned out and given all its best and rather ending up at the 100th position than in the top 10.
So although none of the Dutch are real favourites I hope we still can see a Dutch cyclist in the top 20 in Paris in about 3 weeks time
